Finished Project!

This evening I put the finishing touches on
JJ's new winter blanket.

This was done with a cross-stitch crochet stitch and single crochet.

JJ inspecting my work.

Hamming it up.

He's refused to take his hat off all day.
Eh, could be worse...it could be a Cubs hat.
Now that Mommy could not stand for!

A close up of the stitching.

After you single chain the desired length of your blanket, you chain 3 for a double crochet. But, instead of crocheting into the normal second stitch from the double, you skip it and go to the third. Then you double crochet into the one you skipped from behind your previous double. That creates the subtle X that you see. I guess a simpler way to say it is to double crochet into stitch 3 then 2....5 then 4.....etc etc etc. When you reach the end of your work, chain 1 and single crochet back to the other end.
Chain 3 and wash, rinse, repeat.

If you don't crochet, that's going to sound like a bunch of garble....and if you do crochet my explanation may still sound like garble - lol! I really wanted to get back into crocheting, so I got on YouTube and started looking for beginners videos - the amount of help out there is incredible! I've already got a long list of
other projects to start.

Now, back to stitching....

Beautiful blanket - beautiful stitch. Don't you love those stitches you can just sit and do without having to refer to a pattern or count constantly. Very relaxing.

Thanks, Mary! I do love the easy to memorize patterns. Kevin and I watch TV while I crochet, or especially on those long drives home to Illinois!
